Julia Karin Ormond Bio

Julia Karin Ormond, a British actress, has appeared in films, television, and stage. Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey, England) as the daughter of Josephine, scientist, and John Ormond who became a millionaire at age thirty. Ormond's father divorced Julia's mother and their children while Julia was still young. After going to Guildford High School, Cranleigh School (a private high school) where she was a student of acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She graduated in 1988. Her stage credits include The Rehearsal, Wuthering Heights, The Crucible, Christopher Hampton's Faith, Hope and Charity and won the London Drama Critics' Awards for Best Newcomer. She also appeared in David Hare's My Zinc Bed, for which she earned a Laurence Olivier Award nomination. Her film credits include Jerry Zucker's First Knight, Captives with Tim Roth, Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins and Aidan Quinn, Sydney Pollack's Sabrina with Harrison Ford, "Resistance" and Smilla's Sense of Snow. Her part was also pivotal in The Baby of Macon, a controversial Peter Greenaway movie with Ralph Fiennes. She has appeared in HBO's Stalin and Iron-Jawed Angels, Traffik Varian's War as well as Animal Farm. Additionally, she has an independent production firm, Indican Productions, based in New York City. Ormond also appeared as an actor in the 2008-09 seasons of the CBS police procedural show, CSI:NY.
